Quadtrees and the Hausdorr Dimension of Pictures

چکیده

We present a method for calculating the Hausdorr dimension of a picture by utilizing its quadtree structure. We relate the quadtree structure of a picture to the state-space structure of a subset F of the unit interval in such a manner that the Hausdorr dimensions of both the objects coincide. Then we show that it is possible, under certain restrictions on the set F, to compute its Hausdorr dimension dim F and to decide whether the corresponding (dim F)-dimensional measure is nite. Moreover, it turns out that this measure can never be zero. Zusammenfassung Wir leiten eine Methode her, die geeignet ist, die Hausdorr-Dimension eines Bildes unter Verwendung seines Quadtrees zu berechnen. Dazu stellen wir eine eindeutige Beziehung zwischen Quadtrees von Bildern und der Zustands-Raum-Konnguration von Teilmengen F des Einheitsintervalls derart her, daa die Hausdorr-Dimensionen korrespondierender Objekte bereinstimmen. Danach zeigen wir, daa es-unter gewissen Einschrrnkungen an die Menge F-mmglich ist, ihre Hausdorr-Dimension dim F zu berechnen und zu entscheiden, ob das zugehhrige (dim F)-dimensionale Maa von F Null, endlich oder un-endlich ist. Zu diesem Zweck leiten wir eine notwendige und hinreichende Bedingung daffr her, daa dieses Maa endlich ist. Dabei stellt sich heraus, daa das Maa nicht Null sein kann.
